The Indecent are an American teenage grunge band who just signed with a record label and are now touring to get some exposition and hopefully to gain their own personality. I have to say that to see teenagers playing grunge is kinda strange and disturbing, taking into account that they were around 2 years old when Cobain "committed suicide"...
Their sound is not that bad, but the influences are all over the place. From Nirvana and L7 to Patti Smith and Sonic Youth, all is there so evident that we can even play a game called “spot the influence”. The Indecent have some competent musicians on their ranks and a very charismatic female vocalist. If they can grab all their references and make them their own, there might be something here. They still have space and time to improve, since the age of these guys are around 17. We’ll check on them in a few years time.
Thinking about it, if the return of grunge is going to wipe out all those fake sounding auto-tune-rock/emo bands that for some obscure reason seem to thrive these days, that's probably not so bad.

Stella Marconi are an unsigned local band that needs to evolve quite a bit to be considered as a potential candidate to mainstream success. They play a muscled indie rock but `there’s nothing there to grab your immediate attention or anything to put them in the spotlight.
The singer guitarist is well versed on the making of riffs but his vocals are just capable and in need of some coaching. Best part of the band is their female drummer.
She is a very energetic drummer with loads of rhythm, and she’s not afraid of going the extra mile. When you think she is about to collapse, she just gets some energy pack from some hidden place and there she goes to the next song.
Biggest problem of this band: a mediocre bass player who thinks, most likely, that being in a band is all about the pose and attitude on stage. Well, he is not completely wrong: it is about pose and attitude, but backed up at least with a good technical performance. Awful and basic bass playing and out of tune vocals, especially when singing as the leading voice. Not good at all.
Recommendation to the band: If you want to make it in the music industry, get rid of this guy.

Unfortunately, we arrived late and I didn’t get the opportunity to see Kirsty again. She was leaving the stage exactly on the moment we entered the venue. What a pity. For sure it was another great gig from this outstanding artist. Surely much better than the bands that were to follow…

Mr Torpes I presume
ReplyDeleteWell Ive never heard such a 'Im so important' piece of shit in all my life. Where are your credentials beside your own self delusionment to post the comments made. And where were you when 'Mr Cobain' committed suicide...
Warner Bros must be quaking in their boots at your comments about the Indecent and Stella Marconi are obviously going to call it a day because of your brilliant God Like insight into the world of music... and which band exactly do you front...Oh not up to it... so i'll just spout crap and rhetoric and pretend that I matter.
Get a grip...Get a life.... and just dont go to gigs... unless you open your tiny little mind... and stop believing youre the next 'Paul Gambachini'... Oh who?? Google him... like you obviously do with your so called musical knowledge.
PS Next time you get a free ticket to a gig... keeps your thoughts and mystical musical prowess where it belongs... to yourself
By the way... Steps and JLS are playing soon... you might even get a back stage pass to X Factor Live
Mr. Baggie,
ReplyDeleteas I mention on my blog, this is just a place for my views and opinions. I’m not a professional musical critic and I don’t intend to be. The same way you decided to comment on my blog, I’m entitled to my opinion. I do not need credentials to express my views on something. It is a free world and everyone has different tastes and opinions.
Regarding your comments and questions I just want to say that:
I don’t know where I was when Mr. Cobain committed suicide, but I know where I was just a couple of days before… I was seeing him (a)live on a gig in Portugal trashing his guitar against Mr. Grohl’s drum kit, and it was an amazing and viscerous performance. Most likely at the time you, Mr. Baggie, were still in nappies or jumping happily on your father’s ballsack.
I really don’t care what Warner Bros think about my comments and I do not front any band. I’m just a common person with his own opinion who does some work “from time to time” in FOH, Sound Engineering and Mastering.
I admit that I do not know who is Paul Gambachini but I’m assuming that you do not know either who is António Sergio, The Legendary Tiger Man, Deolinda, Amália, The Gift, Moonspell, Blind Zero, Rita Redshoes, Old Jerusalem, Rodrigo Leão, Blasted mechanist and may others, so music knowledge is always debatable… And don’t forget you can always google those names to open your horizons a little bit.
If I have the opportunity to see bands live for free I’m always going to seize that opportunity. I might listen to something that I do not know and become a fan. Who knows?? In this case with The Indecent and Stella Marconi, they didn’t tick all the boxes for me, but I wish them all the luck in the world. I have total respect for bands that are trying to make a life out of music, and not for that fabricated crap coming out of X-Factor or similar shit. Regarding opening my tiny little mind, if you had the curiosity of checking my other blog reviews, you wouldn’t have made that silly comment…
Please check Frank Turner & The Sleeping Souls, Dimmu Borgir, Anna Calvi, Kate Walsh, Tori Amos, Arctic Monkeys, The Vaccines, Brett Anderson, PJ Harvey, The Whip, Björk, Roger Waters, Adele, EPICA, ReVamp, Azure Ray, The Cult, Kirsty Almeida, Honeyfeet, Fish, Shakira, The Divine Comedy, Paloma Faith, Eliza Doolittle, Oli Brown Band, Jónsi, Sonisphere Festival, etecetera…
JLS and Steps are not my cup of tea, but if I can get free tickets for it… can you get some? Who knows? I might want to see their shows so that I can do my own assessment. Regarding X-Factor Live, no thank you, I’ll pass.
Mr. Baggie, I’m assuming that you are related somehow with one of these bands (probably you are Stella Marconi’s bass player), so I just want to say that if you don’t take other people’s opinions more lightly, you are going to have a hell of a ride on your musical journey… Record Companies, Producers and Sound Engineers normally don’t take crap… And if you ARE Stella Marconi’s bass player you might want to listen to these guys and actually learn something: Steve Harris, Flea, Mark Sandman, Christopher Wolstenahmen, Lemmy Kilmister.
